42.1 (From) Tao is born One.
(From) One is born two.
(From) two is born three.
(And from) three is born all things (in creation).
42.2 All things carry Yin [i.e. silence] on their back and embrace Yang [i.e. dynamism].
(And) with prana flushing to achieve harmony and co-ordination (between Yin and Yang).
42.3.1 What people loathe is to be orphaned, widowed and unworthy,
yet kings (and) dukes call themselves by these names.
42.3.2 So things may be profited from impairing (it),
or may be impaired by profiting (it).
42.3.3 What (other) people teach, I also teach it:
"The outrageous man (will) not get a (peaceful) death".
I shall regard this as the father of (all) learning.
