Sweden defender Jakobsson quits international arena

Sweden defender Andreas Jakobsson has retired from international soccer, Swedish public television SVT reported on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old wants to focus now on his career with Danish Superleague club Brondby, said SVT.

Jakobsson, who won 36 caps, established himself as a Sweden regular during the 2002 World Cup. He started all four of his country's matches at the recent European Championship in Portugal.

Sweden lost on penalties to the Netherlands in the quarter-finals of Euro 2004.
