Ljungberg hoping to learn lessons

Sweden midfielder Fredrik Ljungberg says that they have learned a lesson from Euro 2000 and are determined not to make the same mistakes in Portugal.

The Arsenal man saw the Scandinavians fail to make it through the group stages last time around in Belgium and Holland, but he wants the Swedes to do much better this time around.

Sweden kick-off their campaign against Bulgaria on Monday, before facing Italy and Scandinavian rivals Denmark in a tough Group C.

Ljungberg believes that Sweden can upset a few people in Portugal, and wants to at least qualify from the group.

"I think we've learned from 2000," said Ljungberg. "I think then we trained too hard and were a bit nervous. It was a huge disappointment.

"We don't want to be big-headed or anything - we're just going to say we want to qualify from the group. I think we can upset some of the big teams."

Sweden have been some people's dark horses for the tournament, especially with the return of prolific striker Henrik Larsson.

"I'm very glad he's come back, but it is very important to point out that Allback and Jonsson did a really good job in the qualification," said Ljungberg, noting that strikers Marcus Allback and Mattias Jonsson fired them to Portugal in the first place.
