Anders: "Best since Spurs!"

Anders Svensson rated Saints' 3-2 win over Leeds as their best performance since the 4-0 demolition of Tottenham in January. Two late goals made the score much closer than it should have been after Gordon Strachan's men totally dominated for 80 minutes.

They outpassed and outclassed a Leeds side lacking in heart and ability as they raced into a three-goal lead through Brett Ormerod, James Beattie and Svensson himself. The Swede's strike came too late to be considered for the Goal of the Season competition currently being run by The Saint.

But it might well have won both for its build-up and its execution as Beattie roared up the right and hooked across for Svensson who had made great ground to control and thump home, both with his left foot and on the run.

Svensson laughed:"It was fun! It was probably the hardest left-foot shot I have ever hit!

"It was a good move and James Beattie did brilliantly and it was nice to get my first Premiership goal of the season.

"It was just a shame about the two late goals because that made the game look closer than it was.

"This was the best we have played since the FA Cup win over Spurs and it was great fun to play in this game.

"We worked hard and passed the ball well. We had a lot of confidence and did well because Leeds are a good side.

"For 75 minutes we played extremely well and had some good chances and could have had more goals. But the main thing was we got the three points to move back up to eighth.

"Last week we did not play particularly well against Watford but this time it was all there and we did really well.

"The FA Cup is a huge thing for the club and for the players but we are not there yet. We have five more league games first and need to do well in those." 1
