The two frontrunners as Villa fans vote for their Player of the Year are backing each other to lift the Players¡¦ Player of the Year accolade.

Gareth Barry and Olof Mellberg are fighting it out for the supporters¡¦ vote, after impressive campaigns, despite Villa¡¦s frustrating inconsistency.

And Swedish international Mellberg believes Barry deserves the honour. He reflected: ¡§I¡¦ll be voting for Barry. And if he¡¦s voting for me, that makes it at least one each. But I think he¡¦ll get more than my vote.¡¨

For his part, Barry has been hugely impressed with Mellberg and added: Olof¡¦s been one of our most consistent performers this year and when he¡¦s played at the back with Ronny, they¡¦ve formed a very good partnership.

¡§I¡¦d love to win an award like that, but I know where my vote is going ¡V Olof Mellberg. I¡¦m sure it will be quite close.¡¨
