Brondby confirm Saints interest

Brondby have confirmed that Southampton are interested in signing defender Andreas Jakobsson. A representative for Southampton has contacted the Danish club about the former Swedish international.

Southampton are scouring the transfer market for defensive reinforcements having lost Fitz Hall to Crystal Palace and seen Michael Svensson sidelined with a long-term injury.

Jakobsson has admitted he would be interested in a move to Southampton and Brondby director Per Bjerregaard hinted they could be tempted to sell.

"Southampton have not enquired, but a third party who represent the club has been in touch, but I don't know how serious it is," Bjerregaard told BT.
