Abstract: Having visited Hong Kong three times in
his life and lived and worked in South China for a long time, Zhou Enlai
(1898-1976) was familiar with the situations of the region. During the War of
Resistance against Japan, Zhou was one of the key decision makers of the
Communist Party of China on the affairs of South China and Hong Kong. He was
directly in charge of the struggles against Japanese invaders in the region. It
was under his direction that the East River Column was established. There was
all along an in severable bond between Zhou Enlai, the War of Resistance against
Japan and the fighting history of the East River Column.
