Freight

KCR Freight carries container, general cargo and livestock between the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Mainland.

It also establishes one-price freight shuttles between Kowloon and seven mainland cities, including Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou, Xian, Wuhan, Luoyang, Lanzhou and Urumqi.

To expand intermodalism as far as possible, the Freight Department is stepping up its efforts to introduce package prices for less than wagon load cargoes, container freight services and worldwide multimodal services. These can be transported by air, sea or rail from the Mainland or Hong Kong to overseas destinations, including the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. It is also developing international landbridge rail services and can now provide container services to Almaty, Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan-Bischlet, Uzbekistan-Tashkent, Turkemenistan-Ashkabad, Russia-Moscow, Ukraine-Kiev and Mongolia-Ulann Baator.

In the Mainland, KCRC has set up representative offices in Shenzhen, Wuhan, Chengdu, Kunming, Xian and Changsha. These offices are used for regular liaison with KCRC counterparts involved in Hong Kong/Mainland rail freight business, cargo tracking, conducting market studies and sales promotion, which will assist the upgrading of Freight services and help to explore potential co-operative business opportunities.
