I'm a lesbian in China, where many people still think rather negative of gays. There are several local gay support groups but they are not very active. Their names seldom appear in mainstream magazines or newspapers. Basically, gays are discriminated against and lesbians ignored. It's not easy to get to meet up and know other lesbians (well ... unless you go to the few lesbian bars.)
The Internet is my main source of the lesbian and gay community and the only place where I can be 'openly-closeted' and chat freely with like-minded peers. I've made a few good friends online. The Net is really a godsend to me.
