Fourth quarter dismay sank Matrices

Early foul trouble paid its toll in the fourth quarter.

Gabriel and Justin both fouled out in the fourth quarter, in which Gon outscored the Matrices 17:4 to take win 35:47 in game 8. Gabriel picked up his fourth foul early in the second half and was on the bench most of the time. Justin had four fouls too heading into the fourth quarter.

"I don't know what to say," said Gabriel. "I really think some of those fouls were somewhat doubtful. The fouls really took me out of the game early on."

Justin, who was ejected after picking up two technical fouls, was even more radical regarding the fouls, "all i want to say is the F word! The way the referee officated in this game sucked big time! There was no call when we got nailed driving in the lane but then Gabriel got whistled everytime he mildly touched the opponent. WTF?"

With their two main scorer in early foul trouble, the Matrices did not have their usual scoring power as nobody was in double figures. Justin scored a team high 7 points while Anson and Kong scored 6 points apiece. Justin was actually on fire in the first quarter, hitting 3/4 shots enroute to 7 points but failed to score any point the remaining of the game.

Despite the fouls, the Matrices were able to lead in the first three quarters, leading 31:30 heading into the fourth. Gon scored two baskets in a row to make it 31:34 early in the fourth quarter. Gabriel scored in the painted area to make it a one-point game, 33:34. In the next possession, he was called for a blocking foul and fouled out. This was when the Matrices began to slump. Gon busted out a 12-0 run, including two technical foul shots, to put the game away. Gon finally won 35:47.

"The fact that Gabriel and Justin fouled out really hurt us," said coach Tung. "They were the two captains of the team. With them sitting on the bench, we could not execute smoothly and had way too many turnovers. That's why Gon was able to come up with that fourth quarter run."

"Gon is a good team. They had a solid inside-outside-punch from #6 and #7. #6 was able to dominate inside and #7 created many shots for his teammates. We gave them credit for getting the win but things would have been much different if Justin and I weren't in early foul trouble."

"Right now, we should focus on our remaining games. We have to work on our interior defense. We gave up too many points in the paint and too many offensive rebounds," said Anson, who displayed another nice shooting game, hitting two of two from behind the arc.
