Matrices 47, Target 13 Shing, Matrices shot down ice-cold Target Third time's not only a charm for the Matrices, it was a blast. Holding its opponent to merely 13 points, the unbeaten Matrices improved to 3 - 0 for the season in a 34-point blow-out victory over Target. Hot shooting Maxwell Yim, who returned after missing two games due to foot injury, led all scorers with 19 points. Maxwell was on target throughout the game, hitting 4 of 8 behind the arc. "I was confident right from the beginning, " said Maxwell, " I knew I was going to hit those three's. That's what I do best and tonight I did it again." The Matrices held Target scoreless for almost 2 quarters. Target was missing miserably, managing to make only 5 field goals in the entire game. They scored 1 point and 2 points in the 2nd and 3rd quarter respectively. "We have to give credit to our defense, " said Maxwell, who also had 4 steals, " the other team was somewhat sloppy on their passes. We were able to outhustle them and come up with steals. This really hurt their momentum. " The Matrices had a total of 9 steals in the game. It was still a close game in the first quarter. Target scored on a rebound off a missed layup to open the game. Maxwell immediately answered with a three pointer. Target then scored again on a jumper. Maxwell was fouled on a three point attempt and hit 1 of 3 from the line. He then hit another three pointer from the baseline off a pass from Gabriel to make it 7:4. Target made a nice assist to the middle and put the score 7:6. The quarter ended at 10: 6 after a three point play by Kong. Things began to go bad for Target in the second quarter. Target made 1 of 2 from the freethrow line at the beginning but then failed to score again in the quarter. Gabriel banked in a shot and Kenneth went for a fastbreak to put the Matrices up 14:7. Maxwell and Kenneth then connected on freethrows to extend the lead to 17:7. Gabriel added a long jumper and the score was 19:7 at the half. Target could not turn things around in the second half. Kong scored the first 2 points of the third quarter with a nice jumper on the right. Both teams then commited numerous turnovers and the score was held at 21:7. The Matrices scored again on another three pointer from Maxwell to widen to lead to 17. Target appeared to have lost control of the game. Justin stole the ball and passed to Kenneth for an easy fast break layup. Maxwell then added another three pointer, his third of the game. Target finally scored after being held scoreless since the beginning of the second quarter on a short jumper. Red hot Maxwell made scored 2 more points off a banker from the right to end the third quarter at 31:9. Heading into the fourth quarter with a big lead, the Matrices played even better. Maxwell ran a fastbreak and fed Gabriel for a layup to increase the lead to 33:9. In the next possession, Maxwell was fouled underneath the basketball and his contact lens fell off. He had to leave the game and Justin made 2 of 2 freethrows in place of him. "I was having a cold night and I should really thank Maxwell for the 2 points, " said Justin, who was 1 of 6 for the night. Target made a three pointer, their fifth field goal of the game, but the game was already out of reach at 35:12. Justin then connected on a driving layout, his only field goal of the night. and Gabriel scored on a fastbreak off an interception. Senne Sung came into life late in the fourth quarter. A Target player was looking to hit an easy shot under the basketball when Senne jumped on him and slammed the attempt hard at the backboard. Senne also grabbed several offensive rebounds and completed a three point play. "I just did what I had to do. I didn't understand why everybody was so excited about that. I think we shouldn't be overly satisfied with our winning streak and should start focusing on the remaining games, " Senne warned the team. Maxwell added 2 more steals and one basketball in the paint to conclude the game, 47:13. "It was a great win for us, " said Gabriel, who had an less-than-productive night with 9 points on 4 of 7 shootings. He airballed a freethrow attempt in the second quarter. "This game meant a lot to us. First, it was our first ever 3-game winning streak. Second, Maxwell returned and was definitely in great shape. Third, it was the greatest winning margin we ever had. I'm very pleased with our players and feel very confident about our team's future," Gabriel added.
