Matrices 47, HKEBA - Team B 29

Balanced effort defeated HKEBA - Team B

The Matrices are quietly developing some new weapons.

With Gabriel Kwong sitting out for the night and starters playing limited minutes, the Matrices were still able to beat HKEBA-Team B 47:29, using a balanced attack as every player scored in the game. Big man Wong Ching Hei had his best game of the season with 8 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and a block while shooting 75% (3/4). Reserve Anson Ho showed off his shooting skills as well, hitting a three pointer and 4 out of 4 free throws, coming up with a season high 7 points.

"I wanna thank captain for having confidence in me and letting me play heavy minutes this game, " said Anson. "I will show everybody that I'm worth the game time. Just wait and see."

Usual scoring options Justin Wong and Kenneth Siu scored 9 points and 2 steals apiece.

The game started with Wong Ching Hei at Center, Anson Ho and Senne Sung at Forwards, and Anthony Shiu and Justin Wong at guards. Only Wong Ching Hei is a regular starter in this lineup.

Wong Ching Hei came out firing as early as the beginning of the game, scoring the first basket off an offensive rebound. Anson Ho added a pair of high-arc free throws and Senne with a putback to lead 6:2 early in the game. However, HKEBA-Team B displayed nice shooting touch to tie the game at 6:6. The Matrices then poured in 8 straight points, with Anthony hitting a mid range jumper, a lucky roll three pointer by Justin, and an uncharacteristic drive in three point play by Wong Ching Hei. HKEBA-Team B again connected on back to back baskets to pull within 4. Justin had another jumper rolled in to end the quarter at 16:10.

Tung, previously called Coach Tung, was in the lineup in the second quarter and had two quick steals and an assist early in the quarter. He ended up with 1 point, 4 steals, 2 assists, and a block.

"I'm ready to play. It feels good to be back in the game, " said Tung. "I'm a role player.I don't have to score to contribute."

HKEBA-Team B still managed to keep the score close until midway through the second quarter. Tung assisted Kong for a long range jumperto make it 20:14. Then Daniel scored 4 straight points, on a fastbreak assisted by Kenneth and a follow shot off an offensive rebound to make it 24:14. HKEBA-Team B responded with yet another jumper to reduce the lead back to single digit. This was when Wong Ching Hei made another uncharacteristic shot. He swished a three pointer off a pass from Kong on the left wing.

"We have a shooting center in our team, " said Kong. " Seeing him swish the shot, I kind of feel embarrassed not being able to hit my three pointers."

The score at halftime was 30:18.

It was Anson's turn in the third quarter. He hit 2 free throws in the beginning of the second half. In the next possession, Justin intercepted the ball and saved it to Daniel. Daniel brought the ball up for a fastbreak opportunity and passed it to Wong Ching Hei, who found Anson wide open for a three pointer. Anthony then added 1 of 2 from the line and the Matrices held a 36:20 lead. HKEBA-Team B kept their good shooting and hit 2 baskets to draw closer to 36:24. Justin spilted a pair of free throws and had a three point play by going coast to coast for a layup to extend the lead to 16 points at the end of the quarter, with the score at 40:24.

Things got sloppy in the fourth quarter for the Matrices, which scored only 7 fourth quarter points. Kenneth began the quarter with a three pointer and 1 of 2 free throws to widen the lead to 44:24, an apparently insurmontable lead. HKEBA failed to score as well, connecting on only 2 shots in the final period. Tung almost missed his only chance to score by missing both free throw attempts. Luckily, one HKEBA-Team B player stepped out before the free throw was attempted so Tung was given a second chance to shoot the free throw, which he made it to scored his first point of the season. The game concluded at 47:29.

The Matrices were big on defense as well, coming off a record 17 steals in the game. Six players had at least 2 steals. In addition, Senne had a season high 8 rebounds, while Wong Ching Hei and Daniel Chan also had 7 rebounds apiece.

"It was a good game," said Gabriel, who did not play to free up minutes for bench players. "Our bench players showed a lot of heart and fought hard. I'm especially pleased with Anson. He definitely demonstrated his shooting touch in this game. I hope he can keep it up and eventually become our shooter."

"Wong Ching Hei had an excellent game as well, " added Gabriel." He finally showed the flare we have been wanting him to have in this game. He is gonna dominate if he keeps playing like this."

" Wong Ching Hei's three pointer was a little bit unexpected though, " joke Justin.
